From our company’s inception in 1997 until today, Japanese developers have designed condominium units with entryways and living room windows that face a shared hallway. This design was so common, no one questioned it. At Sunwood, however, we feel this commonly used practice deprives multi-unit housing residents of a sense of ‘secured living’ and ‘privacy’. Therefore, we created the Sunwood Declaration. It is our commitment that we ‘will not develop residential units that face directly into an open and shared hallway’ and that we will strive to increase owners’ fundamental value.
To this date, we have strictly obeyed this policy. We strive to develop ‘high quality’ residential buildings. We will reject any commonly accepted standards in the Japanese condominium industry that do not contribute to the best living environment for our residents.
For example, based on our research, the minimum floor-to-ceiling height for a high-quality residential unit should be 2m 55cm. This floor-to-ceiling height requires a building’s floor-to-floor height to be more than 2m 95cm. Many other condominium developers do not provide 2m 55cm floor-to-ceiling heights; even those who do don’t always provide 2m 95cm floor-to-floor height. Since our inception, we have been addressing this and other quality issues in our residential developments.
We at Sunwood intend to provide fundamentally high quality condominium homes. We will continue to challenge ‘common’ standards to create for residents our vision of ‘Uncommon Communities’.
